Betty Bastien
Dr. Betty Bastien is a professor at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Social Work, Access Division. She is also a member of the Brave Horse Society on the Blood Reserve. She has recently published her PhD dissertation, "The Blackfoot Ways of Knowing."
Dr. Bastien has extensive experience with teaching and curriculum design at Red Crow College, the Native Studies Department at the University of Lethbridge and the many rural and First Nations communities she travels to throughout Alberta. In addition to her recent doctoral dissertation on Indigenous Science, she is celebrated for her research on Blackfoot child development theories, Indigenous research methodologies, child welfare and intergenerational trauma.
Dr. Bastien has a strong commitment to working with First Nations people in challenging social conditions. A shining example of leadership and a scholar in her field, she is a source of support and inspiration for many.
