Sykes Powderface
Sykes Powderface is from the Chiniki Band Morley, Alberta. He attended Mount Royal College, and majored in business and communication. He studied Criminal Law at U of A for one and a half years, but did not finish due to conflict with Aboriginal law and cultural beliefs. He has researched and studied Indigenous, Aboriginal and treaty rights for over 40 years.
Sykes’ work experience includes administrative duties in various capacities with the Stoney Nakoda Nation as well as with the federal and provincial governments. He served as Treaty 7 Vice President of the Indian Association of Alberta for 10 years, working for recognition of and adherence to Aboriginal and treaty rights.
Sykes is traditionally married to a wonderful Mohawk lady from Khanawake, Quebec and is father to four children, three living, two girls and one boy. He lives and ranches on the reserve. He also raises registered quarter horses, paints as a hobby, loves to golf and work with young people. And – he does a little bit of acting for movies for fun and gets to meet celebrities.
