Committing to Action
This support material is incorporated into critical challenges at Kindergarten and grades 2 and 3, however, it can be adapted for use at all grade levels.
The following documents can be adapted and re-saved for your needs.
Things I Could Do
This chart
helps students consider which of several plausible actions is the one action
they will commit to undertake. For example, students might consider which
classroom chore to take on. To use this chart, students:
-
brainstorm a list of reasonable possibilities
-
select three or four options from the list and record, draw or paste pictures
of each on the chart
-
confirm that the core criteria are met for each option by checking the boxes
(e.g., in the case of classroom tasks, they might consider:
Is it safe for me to do this?
Am I able to do this?
-
decide which of their options is the most desirable and record their answer and
reason at the bottom of the chart
-
formally commit to the task, if desired, and ask the teacher or guardian to
approve the action.
Assessing "Things I Could Do"
