Looking for Techniques
This support material is incorporated into critical challenges at grades 3, 7 and 10, however, it can be adapted for use at all grade levels.
The following document can be adapted and re-saved for your needs.
How Do They Do It?
This chart helps students identify techniques they might use to complete a project and match techniques with the criteria required for the assignment. To use the chart, students:
- record teacher- or student-generated criteria for the assignment in the left-hand column; e.g., it might be decided that an effective persuasive presentation should be concise, comprehensive and convincing
- identify the techniques used in relevant samples provided by the teacher or gathered by students; e.g., professional and student samples of print and radio ads, television commercials, posters
- record the techniques they identified next to the criterion that each technique supports; e.g., point form and headings are techniques that promote conciseness.
