Rating Options
This support material is incorporated into critical challenges at grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, however, it can be adapted for use at all grade levels.
The Rating Options charts help students rate the degree to which
certain conditions or effects are present. The following documents can be adapted and re-saved for your needs.
Assessing the Ratings
An assessment rubric is available for these charts.
Rating Impact
The chart helps students determine the degree of impact of various factors or
forces on a specific object, person, place or event. For example, students
might consider the extent to which particular motives, e.g., money, adventure,
fame, loyalty, influenced a group's decision to act in a certain way. To use
this chart, students:
-
list factors to consider in the left-hand column
-
rate the degree of impact for each factor in the middle column
-
provide reasons for each rating in the third column.
Rating Conditions
This chart helps students consider the extent to which specific features of a
design, product, location, person or action meet agreed-upon criteria. For
example, students might consider the extent to which a particular fast food
meal meets the criteria for a healthy diet; e.g., low in fat, nutritious,
balanced, affordable. To use this chart, students:
-
record features to be considered in the top row
-
list criteria to consider in the left-hand column
-
indicate the extent to which the criteria is met and provide evidence to
support the rating in the middle column.
Rating Each Effect
This chart helps students determine the extent to which specific aspects, e.g.,
economic, social, political well-being, of various groups, places or events are
positively or negatively impacted by an action or set of actions. To use this
chart, students:
-
record the group, place or event at the top of the left-hand column
-
list actions to consider in the left-hand column
-
record aspects/criteria at the top of the remaining columns
-
rate the degree of effect of each action, for each aspect/criterion
-
provide reasons for each rating.
